How do you sort out good people with opposite beliefs from people we might label as bad because of their beliefs?

I spent over a decade of my life listening to focus group participants who offered opinions, beliefs and personal experiences about the pre-trial cases I was testing. I thought I'd heard it all over the course of my life, but apparently I hadn't. Judgments were jackpot justice. Money would not bring back an arm, a baby, a loved one. If the injured person had only been more responsible. And so on. I had to teach myself to listen with intention although I wanted to beat the living daylights out of some people for their beliefs.

The more I could focus on what I was learning and set aside how I felt about it the better able I was to draw out the speaker, listen more deeply and, in turn, help my trial attorney clients understand the nature of their case and the jury they could be facing.

Practical Tip: It ain't easy to sit on your tongue, listen and learn, but it's doable.
