Stories From Women Who Walk

60 Seconds: Daunted? Take the First Steps.

Episode Summary

Daunted? Take the first steps. Get them over with. Follow open road.

Episode Notes

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

Back in what was the very worst time of my life I was assigned a prayer protector. I’d never had a prayer protector before and I was Erlinda’s first assignment. In the beginning we shared coffee and conversation; but then she decided we needed to run. We took up running together three mornings a week.

What I didn’t know at first was that Erlinda was part mountain goat and had run marathons. I could never catch her; but that wasn’t the point. It was all about getting me to put one foot in front of the other. And move on. That first mile or two of hills was always the same - a biatchee. We ran them anyway.

Practical tip: Oftentimes the move we want to make feels right but looks daunting, maybe scary, certainly not fun. What I learned is this: take those first steps. The ones in front of you. Get them over with. Now you have open road. Follow that.

This is the place to thrive together.
