Episode Notes

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

A very dear friend still works on a white water river in West Virginia after many years rafting customers through Class 5 rapids, known as The Big 5. His son followed in his footsteps, a son who was keen on doing it right because white water rapids can be an unforgiving mistress and with people in his care in his raft he could be forgiven for yelling out, “You’re not doing it right!

Discernment means to do it right, to notice the details, don’t cut corners, see not only the difference between right and wrong but the difference between right and almost right.

How do we stay present to deeply observe these profoundly painful events taking place in our lifetime, this national awakening? How do we discern the opportunity for compassion and understanding in the face of oppression and injustice without taking sides? How do we do it right? What does that story of change begin with? You talk. I’ll listen.
