Episode Summary

Episode Notes

Hello to you in Belle Plaine, Kansas!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday with questions carefully chosen to help you collect stories in the oral tradition or spark your own writing. Either way, you'll say, "Thanks for the memories."

Years ago I was the keynoter for a  Junior League Mother-Daughter event in Orange County, CA. I sat on a dirty sidewalk outside the venue dressed as a homeless woman to see what attention I'd attract. I was ignored, ridiculed and some tried to have me removed as a danger. Imagine how quiet the room became when the keynoter was introduced and I walked in a side door to the front of the hall where I slowly removed my outer garments while telling the audience a story about Ubuntu: seeing and being seen.

I’ve often wondered what happened to all of them. Did they recognize their own behavior? Did something change in them as a result? Was this an act of theater or kindness?

We chip away at opposition by sewing seeds of doubt in the other person about the strength of their position while inviting them to shift their view with their own understanding.

Prompt: When and how have you shifted your own viewpoint, chipped away at your own opposition? Write that story!
