60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday: That Was the Time When....

Episode Summary

How you make a story your own honors the organic nature of a story.

Episode Notes

Hello to you in Kansas City, Missouri!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday with questions carefully chosen to help you collect stories in the oral tradition or spark your own writing. Either way, you'll say, "Thanks for the memories."

My grandfather loved to tell jokes and the cornier they were the better he liked them. No matter how silly he always laughed after the punch line. You couldn’t help but laugh along with him. Whether he’d told the joke before or not, it always got a laugh. Laugh was his signature.

The same is true with story. A story is organic, it’s living, it’s alive, it can follow you home, it can sleep in your bed.

A story is not meant to be merely recited. We have an obligation when we tell a story to imbue it with our own wisdom, our own understanding, our own voice. That’s what makes the story ours. Stories spoken carelessly have strange powers, mysterious consequences.

Story Prompt: Begin with these words: “That was the time when....” and write that story!

Practical Tip: The magic of stories is also in the sharing. If you wish share your story with someone or something.   All that matters is you have a story.

This is the place to thrive together. Come for the stories - stay for the magic.
