Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday.
I know it’s a bit early but soon the Dickens Christmas Carol will rear its holiday head. I’m thinking about the character Jacob Marley and all those chains he wore - chains made of cash boxes, ledgers, and heavy purses wrought in steel. Marley forged these chains of his own free will and is doomed to suffer in death because he valued money over humanity.
We, too, have crafted chains over the course of our lives. Heavy chains. Immobilizing chains. We might not even know these chains are wearing us down. We might not even know that we hold the key. But one day something or someone shows us how to put the key in the lock, turn it open, the chains fall away. Yes, it might take time but in the end we can prevail over the chains.
Story Prompt: Think of a time you realized you were carrying chains you forged. Think of a time when someone or something showed you that you were holding the key to unlock those chains and set yourself free. Write that story!
