60 Seconds For Story Prompt Friday: What Brilliant Idea Did You Push Through?

Episode Summary

What's your Duct Tape idea? Write *that* story!

Episode Notes

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday with questions carefully chosen to help you collect stories in the oral tradition or spark your own writing. Either way, you'll say, "Thanks for the memories."

It’s everywhere! It has 1001 uses. I bet you have some for those DIY (do it yourself) projects. What am I talking about? Duct Tape. But where did it come from? Like so many other ideas - an observation.

Vesta Stoudt was a mother of sons serving in the U.S. Navy in World War II and working in a plant packing ammunition. Problem was the boxes were sealed with paper tape and then dipped in wax to make them waterproof but that left soldiers scrambling under fire to open them.

Why not create a waterproof cloth tape? Problem was Mrs. Stoudt’s bosses didn’t think much of her idea. So, she did what any self-respecting mother of boys in the military would do: she wrote to President Roosevelt who got a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson Corporation to make the product and the rest, as they say, is history.

Story Prompt: What brilliant idea of yours was inspired by seeing things differently? Who stood in your way? Who gave you a hand up? Write that story?

Practical Tip: If you wish share your story with someone or something: your journal, your animal companion, your loved one, colleagues, master mind group. All that matters is you remember, relish and record a time when you pushed through a brilliant idea of yours.

This is the place to thrive together. Come for the stories - stay for the magic.  Speaking of magic, would you share a nice rating/review on Apple Podcasts and when you come back bring your friends and rellies.
