Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday.

My experience might be like yours. Life sends us all sorts of gifts. There are some we can’t wait to open, like children tearing at wrapping and ribbons. We are so very thankful! We can’t express gratitude enough for answered prayers.

And then there are those we want to mark “Return to Sender” but the post office will not accept them. Nor do we want what’s inside: loss, disappointment, betrayal, and so on. We squirrel them away in the attic or basement hoping out of sight means out of mind. But these gifts are patient. They know something we have yet to learn: when we are ready they will demand to be opened. We may not *feel* ready but our willingness to open the box we didn’t want to look into is evidence enough. Our willingness is evidence enough of our courage to learn from the gift inside.

Question: Where is the box you have yet to open? What happens next?
