Stories From Women Who Walk

60 Seconds For Time Out Tuesday: Chasing Soap Bubbles.

Episode Summary

Remembering childhood and chasing soap bubbles.

Episode Notes

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

Last Sunday I was walking through wide open grassy parade grounds of Fort Casey on my way to the beach below when I saw them: Bubbles! Big bubbles. Where were they coming from?

An elderly man held two long poles, one in each hand from which was suspended a long loop of string. Slowly he’d dip the loop into a bucket of soapy water and then raise his arms inviting the breeze to create shimmering soap bubbles, big as basketballs. Of course the children and the dogs raced here and there trying to catch them floating up up & away.

But what caught my eye were the big humans, standing still and, I imagine, remembering once being a child on a sunny afternoon chasing soap bubbles.
