Stories From Women Who Walk

60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: Cold. Dark. Wet. Now What? Adjust.

Episode Summary

Sometimes the best answer is ADJUST.

Episode Notes

Hello to you listening in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

Very cold, dark and wet outside the albergue kitchen crowded with pilgrims jostling for morning coffee. Wearing most of my gear I feel afraid it won’t be enough for what I imagine is outside. How will I walk in this weather? A pilgrim wearing a black hoodie turns around and I see white block letters spelling the word: ADJUST.

Tugging down my black wool watch cap before pulling up the rain jacket hood I agree with myself to ADJUST and set out. That’s why I’m here: to journey into the dark and come out in the light.

Village street lamps are shrouded in fog, misty rain muffles even the closest voices, hiking boots echo on cobblestones. I get the sense we are all feeling our way along  hoping to stumble on the yellow Camino marker so we don’t miss the turn. There it is. Single file we go. In time dawn rises, a small café is serving café con leche, and I’ve adjusted to the Camino once again.
