Stories From Women Who Walk

60 Seconds For Time Out Tuesday - Night Sounds

Episode Summary

What night sounds soften your heart and remind you all is well?

Episode Notes

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

I will tell you a story I remember from when I was a little girl. Every time I think of the story it gets better because stories - like people - get better as they grow older. Now that my dad is gone I hear him when he says, “Hush, listen!

There must have been 4 of us kids in the back seat of that old green Plymouth, dad behind the steering wheel, window rolled down and his bent arm resting on the door in that early summer evening, twilight falling to dusk. We were parked near a lake when dad said, “Hush! Listen!”  We were kids, playing wise guys, listen to what? And we rolled on the seats laughing!

But something in his voice saying again, “Hush! Listen!” paused us. The car filled with the sounds of a summer evening: crickets, breeze blowing through maple trees, birds’ last calls as they settled in, grass as something moved through it, the soft breath of children, even lightning bugs if you listened just so.......

Practical Tip: Step outside tonight, close your eyes and listen. Night sounds will bring a smile to your face, soften your heart and leave you with a sense of well–being come what may.
