Episode Summary

“Opportunities to find deeper powers within ourselves come when life seems most challenging.” [Joseph Campbell]

Episode Notes

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

Joseph Campbell wrote, “Opportunities to find deeper powers within ourselves come when life seems most challenging.”

Our local poet David Whyte wrote that in the well of grief we find gold coins if we look in the deep water.

They’re both right. How do I know? I’ve been there. I’ve picked up the coins.

THE WELL OF GRIEF

"Those who will not slip beneath

the still surface on the well of grief,

turning down through its black water

to the place we cannot breathe,

will never know the source from which we drink,

the secret water, cold and clear,

nor find in the darkness glimmering,

    the small round coins,

thrown by those who wished for something else." [David Whyte]
