Stories From Women Who Walk

60 Seconds For Time Out Tuesday: Stop! Drop Your Shoulders. Smile.

Episode Summary

Take a time out to drop your shoulders, thank them and get a smile back.

Episode Notes

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

Walking along the road by the bay I felt my shoulders up around my ears. I was reminded of the story about a team of pack animals struggling their way up a mountainside. The last pony in line was wearing a saddle but the horse just ahead of him was burdened with boxes and bags and barrels. The pony said: "Good grief, what a heavy load they have you carrying." The horse turned it’s head and asked: "What load?"

You see we get used to carrying so much we don’t even realize the burden.

Practical Tip: Right now, stop, drop your shoulders. Take a few deep breaths and smile to your shoulders. Thank them for what they’ve been carrying for you and tell them that in the future you will take care to burden them less. Then wait for a moment while they smile back at you.
