Stories From Women Who Walk

60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: Taking Time Out to Go Back to Camino

Episode Summary

Making the path by walking; by walking you make the path.

Episode Notes

Hello to you listening in Viana, Spain!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

This day on the Camino de Santiago I arrived in the lovely walled town of Viana. I had been on pilgrimage only 8 days walking 12 to 15 miles a day. My journal reminds me that amidst all my complaining about how everything hurt, the weight of my pack, whether I made a good pilgrim or not, the uncertainty of the weeks ahead, I was learning to take the long view, I was becoming aware that I’d been given the Gift of Years.

Nothing prepares you for the Camino. One day you set out and there you are facing yourself, your Bad Mind Radio, silence, sheep, farmers, villages, pilgrims, crowded dorm rooms, snoring, wet clothes, fatigue, humility, laughter, vino tinto, achievement, and a range of emotions. In the morning you set out to do it all over again making the path by walking, the path that will never be trod again.
