Episode Summary

The Pomodoro Technique is absolutely proven for successful time management and productivity in 6 easy steps.

Episode Notes

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

Who here is still not familiar with The Pomodoro Technique of time management and productivity?  It’s delightfully fun and terribly productive. Fun because it‘s named after a small red kitchen timer shaped like a tomato (pomodoro) and productive because it works in 6 easy steps:

1. Choose any task or project to work on.

2. Set the timer for 25 minutes while you take an oath to do nothing but the chosen task or project for those 25 minutes.

3. Get to it! Devote yourself, immerse yourself, enjoy yourself with that task. If a crazy distracting thought tries to sideline you, write down that thought and resume your task.

4. When the timer rings, put a check mark on a piece of paper to track your success. I like to hit the red Staples Easy Button on my desk.

5. For the next 5 minutes stand up, breathe, sing a song, stretch, walk around, refocus your eyes, get a drink of water, pet the cat. You have 5 whole minutes to relax!

6. Sit back down, reset the timer for 25 minutes and focus on the same task or another if you completed the first one.

And! after 4 Pomodoro sessions you get to relax for 20 minutes!
