Stories From Women Who Walk

60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday: Time to Drop What You're Carrying.

Episode Summary

If your shoulders are like mine - level with your ears - it's time to drop what you're carrying.

Episode Notes

Hello to you in Manilla, Philippines!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

Walking down the road the other day I stopped to look at Honeymoon Bay and the distant Cascade Mountains. I realized that I was holding my shoulders level with my ears.

This won’t do!

I’m reminded of a story about a team of pack animals struggling their way up a mountainside. The last pony in line was wearing just a saddle but the horse ahead of him was burdened with boxes and bags and baskets. The pony said: Hey brother, that’s a heavy load you’re carrying! The pack horse turned it’s head and asked: What load?

Like a pack horse we get used to carrying so much we don’t even realize what we’re carrying.

Practical Tip: Right here, right now, stop and drop your shoulders. Breathe in and out and smile to your shoulders. Thank them for what they’ve been carrying for you. Tell them that in the future you will take care to burden them less. Feel them smiling back at you
