Stories From Women Who Walk

60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: A Fire Engine Red Diner Mug.

Episode Summary

When a sister's gift is more than a cup to hold coffee.

Episode Notes

Hello to you in Berlin, Germany!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

Years ago my sister gave me a fire engine red diner mug with the New Hampshire Public Radio logo in white letters. The handle fits me just so. The weight of the mug is the perfect diner heft not too heavy, not too light. Most important it’s a reminder of the sunny afternoon she opened the trunk of her car, lifted out a small cardboard box, handed it to me and said, “I hope you can use this. Drink in good health.”

And I do - every single day. I think of her across the country in New Hampshire. And it puts me in mind of many road side diners where I sat at the counter enjoying a cuppa Joe and a piece of pie.

Question: When you enjoy your daily beverage what vessel do you drink it from and what story does it hold for you?
