Stories From Women Who Walk

60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: Autumn Equinox Brings Stormy Changes.

Episode Summary

Autumn Equinox (in the Northern Hemisphere) says seasons have changed; how do the seasons change where you live?

Episode Notes

Hello to you listening in Stuttgart, Germany!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

Two things tell me that Summer has ended. One is the Autumn Equinox where for a moment in time today we have a day and a night of about equal length. Autumn is the formal invitation to the next season of life when we harvest our plantings.

The other is a more intimate reminder that soon we will harvest the November to May Rain Festival storms. This one came early bringing with it very high winds tearing limbs from trees, scattering wildlife to shelter, and shutting down power for 24 hours.

I held off firing up the generator because you never know how long the outage will last and better to have power in the night time. Meanwhile, no hot water, no computer, no cell phone, no nothing except a good book, a puzzle, a lantern, and a juvenile Sharp Shinned Hawk perched on a nearby rocking branch, his feathers a’flutter as he looks this way and that.

This is the place to thrive together. Come for the stories - stay for the magic.
