Stories From Women Who Walk

60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: The Morning Welcome for Whatever Walks Our Way.

Episode Summary

What if we welcomed whatever comes our way in the morning, like a guest we're happy to see?

Episode Notes

Hello to you in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, England!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

Over the weekend I was catching a bit of a break from heavy yard work enjoying a tall glass of homemade sunshine tea while sitting on my front porch. Cushioned wicker chairs were ready and waiting for friends and neighbors to drop by; Washington State is supposed to open up soon.

Seeing that inviting space and anticipating gathering together again reminded me of one of the many Christmas Eve traditions we were taught in my family:  setting a place at the table for the unexpected guest. There were times when the doorbell rang and a friend would drop in and there was a place already set to welcome them.

Question: What if, each morning, we set a place for whatever walked in our door and said, “Hello! Welcome! I’m glad to see you!” How might that change what happens next?
