Stories From Women Who Walk

60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: The Way We Travel.

Episode Summary

When you want to "go to town" travel on the ferry.

Episode Notes

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

Here on Whidbey time slows down on this semi-rural island. We have roads but only 1 2-lane highway. Street lights illuminate the town intersections but little else. One learns to take it easy night driving because our black-tailed deer, otters, raccoons, Great Horned owls, coyote, and more are out and about. It’s a change of pace and a different way of life. No running to the mall.

If you want to “go to town” our charming and reliable Washington State Ferry System will get you from here to there. The iconic green and white boats cross the Puget Sound in just about every weather condition. Ferry boat captains have been known to detour for whale pods crossing their bow. Once aboard stretch your legs and breathe deep of the clean salt air or sit in your car and daydream - no better way to travel.
