Stories From Women Who Walk

60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: Time as Ally and Walking as Worship

Episode Summary

How is walking like worship when time stands still?

Episode Notes

Hello to you listening in Stockholm, Sweden!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

Maybe you’ve noticed this too. When you’re deeply involved in walking time seems to stop.

Peter Brook says, “Time, which is so often an enemy in life, can also become our ally if we see how a pale moment can lead to a glowing moment, and then turn to a moment of perfect transparency, before dropping again to a moment of everyday simplicity.”

That’s what happens when I’m walking the deep woods here. Coming upon a 200 year old Douglas Fir I can feel it breathe and transcend beyond its earthly roots before it becomes again a tree. In this way mindful walking is like worship.

Question: Where do you walk? How is it like worship? What does walking and worship feel like to you?
