Stories From Women Who Walk

60 Seconds: I Am My Father's Daughter After All.

Episode Summary

Who are you discovering you are most like?

Episode Notes

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

Dad was the instigator: a new recipe, a different place to go camping, always some idea. Although in truth what dad liked most of all was a good walk, a good meal, and a good seat beside a lake.

Mom was the do-er: she made it all happen. As the first born daughter and eventually eldest of 7 children I became a do-er, too. I couldn’t understand dad’s desire to just be in the present moment. I was too busy, doing.

Here I am late in life finally embracing what I resisted for so many decades. Sitting on the deck with my early morning coffee, sun glinting her way through the pine trees, song birds waking up, deer high stepping their way through the tall grass.

Do nothing. Think nothing. Enjoy everything. I am my father’s daughter.
