Stories From Women Who Walk

60 Seconds: Live! We're In it to Win it!

Episode Summary

Life. Death. Hope. Work. Live! The world is waiting for us.

Episode Notes

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

I was a shepherd at Juniper Moon Fiber Farm outside Charlottesville, Virginia. I loved every living bit of it: prepping ewes for breeding, birthing sheep, bottle feeding lambs, shearing fiber, watching the flock bounding into the Spring pasture.

We had:

1 big ugly smelly ram,

2 llamas,

3 Maremma dogs, and

4 geese.

That was our Strike Force to protect the flock from what might prey on them; and yet, sometimes it wasn’t enough.

You see, where there is livestock there is dead stock. Where there is life there is death. Where there is death there is life. It's a package deal. So, where’s the hope in that?

Live! because we’re in it to win it! We’ve got work to do! And the world is waiting for us.
