Stories From Women Who Walk

60 Seconds: Michelangelo's Practice For Our Lives.

Episode Summary

Imagine if we could see the completed work inside our life and release it!

Episode Notes

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

I remember standing in a rotunda inside the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence gazing at the “David” statue, a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture created in marble by the Italian artist Michelangelo. At almost 17 feet high the statue of the Biblical figure David dwarfed those of us who stood awestruck and wondered, “How did he do that?”

Michelangelo’s practice was to discover and release the image from the marble. He said, “The sculpture is already complete within the marble block before I start my work. It is already there; I just have to chisel away the superfluous material.” [Michelangelo Buonarroti]

Imagine if we applied his practice to our life: see our beauty, creativity, resilience, passion, and strength - and release our life from where we hold it back. Imagine that!
