Once in my Advanced Biology Placement class my senior year of high school a short-sighted nun told me from her seat in front of class that I was just lucky to be there because I wasn’t cut out for biology. And, she went on, don’t even think about getting a bachelor’s degree in nursing; if you’re not cut out for science you’re not cut out for nursing.
Back then I didn’t really know about discrimination but I did know I felt put down. Okay! if that’s the way she wants to play the game then I’ll show her. If I have to work twice as hard then at the end of the day I‘ll be twice as good. And I was.
Practical Tip: Don’t let them tell you you can’t. And, if they do then you show them they’re wrong - twice as wrong. Don’t let anyone stunt your own wide-open life frontier because no one can imagine your life for you! That’s your job!
