Stories From Women Who Walk

60 Seconds: Our Work is Ourselves. Scared?

Episode Summary

Our work is ourselves. No wonder we might feel scared to put ourselves out there.

Episode Notes

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

Our work is ourselves. Offering ourselves to the world can be scary and might serve as an excuse to hold back.

One of my very earliest story mentors was Doug Lipman of Story Dynamics who taught us a short song which was sung in a round with each line repeated 3 times: "What I have to offer is what’s uniquely mine. What’s uniquely mine is that which makes me different. That which makes me different is what I have to offer."

Practical tip: Listen again to the lines of Doug’s song. Consider that your work is a drink of water. People are thirsty to drink what you have to offer.
