Stories From Women Who Walk

60 Seconds: Plan Breaks Down. What Do You Do?

Episode Summary

You've been there. Plan breaks down. Now what? I have a few tips for you.

Episode Notes

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

Imagine: setting out on family vacation and everything is lost. My brother Steve knows well: plan and adapt. What do I mean? Steve was taking his young family on a camping trip. Driving down a highway - late at night - in the rain - Steve heard the car top carrier with all their gear break away - fall off the car - and onto the highway. By the time the family circled back the carrier was gone. Everything. Gone. Now what?

Find a WalMart, purchase the bare minimum and carry on with the part of the plan that survives: the camping trip.

Practical Tip: Plan with deliberation. When circumstances change adopt “Right here ! Right now!” mentality. Most of your plan should survive. Adapt your plan to adjust to the change and carry on. Some things you can’t plan for; but most of them you can adjust to.
