Our library has re-opened, sort of. A phone call tells the staff you are waiting outside in the designated area on the sidewalk. A staff member steps out and lays a brown paper sack like something from the liquor store or Chinese take-out on a folding table and steps back. That’s your signal to step forward and pick up the sack of books. Loan times are reduced; most likely for quarantine. But! We have books in hand.
Tuesday afternoon. Tuesday afternoon. One more thing that is charming and beguiling about Whidbey Island: summer rain of a Tuesday afternoon. Rain pitter-patters you away from the computer screen, drums you out of your office space, drizzles out the many reasons why now is the best time to pull up a couch, toss the afghan over your feet and read.
