Stories From Women Who Walk

60 Seconds: Sometimes We Need a Little Human to Point the Way.

Episode Summary

When anything or anyone is like "chalk and cheese" to you, consider about a way out. 7 year olds know this without being told.

Episode Notes

Hello, Perth, Australia!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

Her name was Charlie, 7 years old and on vacation with us on the North Carolina coast. Skipping up the sandy path leading to the rented beach house where I slumped on the porch with my then boyfriend, Charlie stopped dead in her tracks, put hands on hips, screwed up her face and said, “Hey! is *that* your *dad*?” As if she couldn’t believe her eyes!

Right then I knew this guy was too darn small for me - too old in spirit - too controlling. We were like chalk and cheese.

Life is so darn short. “Anything or anyone that does not bring you alive, says (the poet) David Whyte, is too small for you.” [Sweet Darkness by David Whyte

It  took a 7 year old - who could see clearly - to point the way so I could free myself and walk into a wide open frontier.

Question: What might be too small for you?
