Stories From Women Who Walk

60 Seconds: This Is a Wonderful Life!

Episode Summary

It can be a wonderful life when you know how to turn things around.

Episode Notes

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

My friend Chris gave me a silver bell engraved with the words “It’s a Wonderful Life” - just like the movie of the same name - to help me focus on the good stuff.

Before setting out to trek Shore Meadows Beach I pulled on rubber boots because I was sure the tide would be coming in and I’d have to scramble in places over submerged rocks.

Navigating an old stone drainage pipe exposed by recent storms I misjudged how solid the sand would be and sank - to my knees - in quicksand drain runoff. Not wonderful! Planting my gloved hands on the surface in front of me I hauled myself up and out with my boots and clomped the 2 miles back to the car, cold, wet, sandy, squishy, yucky, step by step. Not wonderful.

At home I tossed everything in the laundry, showered off all the gunk, donned a warm bathrobe and cozied up with a good book and several fistfuls of crunchy Cheetos, my closet vice. Chris was right: life can be wonderful if you know how to turn it around.
