60 Seconds Time Out Tuesday and Addiction

Episode Summary

Addiction takes place in isolation. Seasons of Sobriety is an on-message slice of recovery that bears listening for all of us on the journey of life.

Episode Notes

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds for Time Out Tuesday, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

Addiction takes place in isolation. You may be new to a neighborhood, back to being single after divorce or death, incapacitated by COVID, or just plain down and out watching the online progress of colleagues. On the other hand, you can be surrounded by people and still feel isolated - separated from them or from yourself. It doesn’t matter what the circumstances are; what matters is how you might experience isolation. For some of us addiction takes place in isolation.

Turning addiction into sobriety is a moment-by-moment affair. I find I can do for a day what would be daunting to imagine for a lifetime. Ironically, I experience sobriety like mindfulness: "present moment - wonderful moment" without the fogging layers I relied on to cope, to escape, to avoid, to feel better.

I find a lot of wisdom and encouragement in Howard’s podcast Seasons of Sobriety. Check it out; maybe it’s a road you’d like to walk together no matter who or where you find yourself.

This is the place to thrive together. Come for the stories - stay for the magic.
