Stories From Women Who Walk

60 Seconds: What Are the Chances!

Episode Summary

Instead of asking what do you need, ask what do you have, smile and say: What are the chances!

Episode Notes

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

My dad was fond of saying, “What are the chances!” as a way to express his delight over the unexpectedly wonderful. As in, “What are the chances I would meet your mother and she would marry me?” “What are the chances I’d come from where I started and live such a good life?”

When my way gets lost in the woods and the fog settles in on where I’m going and how, I give it my best shot to channel dad’s voice remembering that for each singular loss or disappointment I’ve known there have been 7 unexpected wonders. "What are the chances!"

Practical tip: Look around at your one precious life, name the unexpectedly wonderful events, smile to them and say, “What are the chances!”
