Stories From Women Who Walk

60 Seconds: What Is Engaged Storyism®?

Episode Summary

How is it possible for authentic storytelling to better the world?

Episode Notes

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

I was asked, what is Engaged Storyism®?

Consider Engaged Storyism® like engaged activism, engaged environmentalism, engaged Buddhism, and the like.

Our formal storytelling traditions have been lost and  authentic story has been co-opted and conscripted for the business world. Engaged Storyism® is a way to revive authentic storytelling for communities, organizations, and people by engaging in story to shift attitudes, behavior, and culture - not as a trick or a means to a profit. Rather, becoming energetically engaged with social concerns by listening out the stories of those concerns: peace, the environment, being dispossessed, end of life, the prison system, and so on.

Why? Imagine how we might engage with story to make changes in society toward a greater good? This is my aspiration.

This is the place to thrive together. Come for the stories - stay for the magic.  Speaking of magic, would you share a nice rating/review on Apple Podcasts and when you come back bring your friends and rellies.
