Stories From Women Who Walk

60 Seconds: When Enough Is Enough Get Even!

Episode Summary

There is a time - for getting even - in the right way - to say "Enough is enough!"

Episode Notes

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

It took my disturbed neighbors 3 weeks of calling the county road department to remove a small stack of stones I left at the foot of my front lawn as a totem or memorial. Problem was this small mound rested within the 10 foot grassy right-of-way which I own but was offensive to them because the letter of the law prohibits “structures and such.”

The county supervisor who made the hour-long round trip to remove the half dozen stones told me: I had to keep the peace even though you are being singled out because every other home in the neighborhood has a fence or rock wall or garden all the way to the road. So here’s what you need to do: file an application for a permit to work in the right-of-way and then you can replace your stones and more. No one can stop you.

I filed the application. Why? Because after months of harassment enough is enough! There comes a time when you don’t get mad - you get even - in the right way - to stand up for yourself.
