Stories From Women Who Walk

60 Seconds: Words, Rubber, Glue, and Smiling.

Episode Summary

How might children skipping rope teach us to be kinder to our own good selves? Take a listen.

Episode Notes

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

Walking around the lake the other day I heard children skipping rope in time to a little tune that went like this: Bad words like rubber and glue bounce off me and stick to you.

The pace and volume of words have accelerated; many have lost their meaning altogether such that we have become hardened to the damage our words can cause to others.

But closer to home we have many more opportunities to hurl words at our own good selves 24/7.

Practical Tip: What if for the next 3 minutes you sit, breathe quietly and patiently, and then let all the words go smiling for no particular reason.
