Stories From Women Who Walk

60 Seconds: Your Smallest Viable Audience and Nasrudin.

Episode Summary

Who is your smallest viable audience? How does your wisdom and empathy attract them?

Episode Notes

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

As we cast about looking for our smallest viable audience to grow our businesses we might be encouraged by the Sufi master Nasrudin Hodja

One day Nasrudin was scheduled to give a lecture in the great hall at noon. Thousands  filled the hall and hundreds more stood outside.

The noon hour came and went with no Nasrudin. The crowd was told it would be another few hours. A number of people grumbled and left. But still many held their seats.

By 3 PM there was still no sign of Nasrudin and larger numbers began to leave angrily asking if this was some sort of joke.

By 6 PM there were less than 100 left in the great hall when Nasrudin stumbled in appearing quite drunk and flirting with several women near the podium.

Cursing his outlandish behavior all but 9 left. And to those 9 Nasrudin turned, clear-eyed and sober, saying, “I will teach those of you who stayed. You have passed through the two hardest tests on the spiritual road: the patience to wait for the right moment, and the courage not to be disappointed with what you encounter.”

Question: Who are the patient and courageous ones you are attracting with your wisdom and empathy?

This is the place to thrive together.
