Motivate Your Monday: Perseverance

Episode Summary

How is it that some people persevere no matter what?

Episode Notes

Hello, to you listening in Brainerd, Minnesota!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.

In her book, Perseverance, Margaret Wheatley asks, “How is it that some people persevere no matter what?"

Mom taught me: “We’re almost there; may as well keep going.”

Imagine this: an icy February weekend, two-lane rural road, last minute trip to visit my sister in upstate New York. Dark was falling. We were unclear about the way ahead. And the dog who had been whining the last 10 miles finally let us know that we should have stopped for her. She let go an impressive pile of dog dump on the plastic covered middle seat of the family station wagon where she and I had been skittering back and forth as the car slid this way and that. I remember dad pulling over and hauling her to the side of the road while he tried to scrape the worst of it off the seat with dirty, gravel-studded snow. Back in the car he turned to mom and asked, “Now what?” “Mom said, “We’re almost there; may as well keep going.”

And so we did - enjoying a snowy weekend while adding a story to the family lore.
